Handling Works of Art on Paper

The important techniques for handling works of art on paper are:

• do not touch the surface of any work
• place a sheet of matboard underneath unmounted works to carry them
• keep works flat
• store prints and drawings in individual acid-free folders or interleaved with acid-free tissues
• have clean hands and wear cotton gloves where possible
• do not place anything on top of loose media works
• try to mount works as soon as possible
