Using Velcro

Velcro is a two part material. One part consists of small plastic hooks protruding from a strip of fabric. The other part has receptive loops that grab the hooks when they are brought together.

Velcro is useful for holding rugs, football jerseys, and any fabric with an edge that has to be seen.

The materials required for mounting fabrics with velcro are:
• strips of velcro
• a backing board or strainer
• a ball point needle
• cotton or linen thread
• silicone adhesive

Mount the fabric as follows:
1. Cut both parts of the velcro to a length that is shorter by 25mm, than the fabric that is being mounted.

2. Sew one part of the velcro along ech edge of the textile to be mounted.

3. Align the other part of the velcro on your choice of backing.

4. Sew the other part of velcro to the backing. If you use a stretcher you can staple or glue the velcro to the backing.

5. Mount the fabric to the backing.
