Handling Textiles

The important techniques for handling textiles are:

• be meticulous about having a clean workshop
• have clean dry hands
• work surfaces must be spotlessly clean, the ideal work table consists of a padded surface covered with desized muslin; another sheet of loose muslin, which is changed daily, is placed on top of this.
• fabrics should be handled as little as possible
• fabrics must only be in contact with inert materials
• avoid folding fabrics
• if the fabric has to be rolled, it should be rolled around a large diameter acid free tube with the artwork side facing inwards.
