| What is Blocking? |
|
Blocking is a process that is used to stretch the needlework into shape before it is held in place by pinning and lacing. Not every work will have to be blocked but it is helpful in preventing the needlework from sagging in the frame and it also can re-align distorted needleworks. To block a needlework you will need: How to block a needlework: 2. Steam iron the needlework on its back side. 3. Align one side of the needlework with the grid on the blocking board. 4. Stretch the fabric along the aligned edge by pulling it. 5. Look through the weave in the fabric and pin it in alignment along its edge. 6. Steam the surface of the fabric. 7. Pull the fabric along an adjacent edge to the one that is fixed to the board and pin it in alignment. 8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 until you have pinned each side of the needlework to the board. 9. Leave the needlework in place on the board for 24 hours...you can prepare the other materials to be used in the framing job during this time. 10. Remove the pins from the board and your needlework you remain in shape ready for lacing. |
