Full Support Sewing

Full support sewing can be used for any heavy fabric.

It can also be used to stitch crochet, tatting or lace flat onto a backing.

The materials you will need for full support sewing are:
• rag board or other rigid acid free mountboard or another fabric mounted onto foamcore board
• a ball point needle
• cotton or linen thread
• a thimble

How to fully support the fabric by sewing:
1. Select a backing that is larger than the fabric.

2. Position the fabric centrally on the backing

3. Stitch the fabric to the backing by working a running stitch across the fabric

4. Depending on the weight or design of the fabric, stitches may have to be placed between 10 - 100mm apart.
